Fulbrighters for Women's Rights

Jan 16, 2020

Fulbrighters for Women's Rights is a new group founded by a group of Fulbrighters. In this piece, the founders discuss the group's formation and purpose.

"The Fulbrighters for Women's Rights (FFWR) group was born during a Fulbright enrichment seminar in Kentucky in December 2019. After exciting and lively discussions among six Fulbrighter women from six different countries, it became obvious to us that it made sense to unite and use our Fulbrighter status as a force to advocate for women's rights around the world.

The idea is to consider our status of Fulbrighter as an empowerment tool to support a cause that we believe is right.

"The purpose of this group is to have a platform for exchange that allows us to discuss, exchange, reflect, and possibly call each other on all subjects that affect women's rights. The idea is to consider our status of Fulbrighter as an empowerment tool to support a cause that we believe is right.

"Women's rights affect areas as diverse as politics, work, sex, parenthood, etc. A group of Fulbrighters with different backgrounds is therefore a major strength to obtain accurate and varied views on the different aspects of women's rights. Women's rights are very heterogeneous from one country to another. The internationality of our group is what makes its richness. Our exchanges will make it easy to highlight the disparities between our countries. Each of our experiences within our respective countries can be an additional argument to convince of the need for gender equality."
